On September 8 we set up on campus at Georgian College for orientation day.

It was the first day on campus for a lot of people. New students arriving in Barrie for the first time, and returning students starting a new semester. Exactly the group ImpulsTrip was built for, and exactly the moment when the city feels biggest and loneliest.

We handed out pamphlets, let people pick their own goodies, and gave out ImpulsTrip stickers. Mostly we talked. Hundreds of conversations across the day about what the app does, how a trip works, and why we built it in the first place.

The part that never gets old is watching someone realise it is a real app they can download right now, made by three people who were sitting in the same lecture halls two years ago.

We shared the table with the Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre. HBEC has backed us since the very beginning, from the eCo-op program where ImpulsTrip was incorporated through to the Emerging Entrepreneur Award earlier this year. Being on their table meant we could talk about what they do for student founders at the same time as talking about the app, which felt like the right way around.

Thank you to the HBEC team for the space, and to everyone who stopped to talk.

If you picked up a sticker and have not opened the app yet, this is your reminder.

Your city is full of future friends.

One download. One “I’m down.” That’s how it starts.
